Describe your documents, pick how many you want, and get a mongosh script you can paste straight into your shell: insertMany with real ObjectId() and ISODate() values, nested objects and arrays. Or export Extended JSON for mongoimport. Nothing leaves your browser.
Seeding a collection with believable data makes it much easier to try out queries, indexes, aggregation pipelines and UI screens before real users arrive. This tool builds the documents for you and wraps them in a script you can run as-is.
use myDatabase (or fill in the Database box so the script does it), then paste. Large sets are split into several insertMany calls of 1,000 documents.mongosh "mongodb://localhost:27017/myDatabase" users.mongosh.js.mongoimport --jsonArray, or the import dialog in Compass or VisuaLeaf. ObjectIds and dates are kept as $oid and $date, so their types survive the import.Fields in one document agree with each other: the email is built from that document's first and last name, and the city, country, postal code and coordinates all describe the same place. Generated ObjectIds carry timestamps from the last few years, so they sort roughly by creation time like real ones.
Pick a preset or add your own fields, set the number of documents, then copy the generated mongosh script and paste it into mongosh. It calls insertMany on your collection with the generated documents.
Yes. Generation is seeded: the same seed, fields and settings always produce exactly the same documents. Change the seed, or click New data, to get a different set.
No. Names are combined at random from common first and last names, emails use reserved example.com domains, and phone numbers use the 555 range, so nothing maps to a real person or a deliverable address.
Up to 10,000 at a time. For bigger collections, run the script several times with different seeds.
VisuaLeaf
Open the collection you just seeded in VisuaLeaf to browse documents in a table or tree view, build queries and aggregation pipelines visually, and see the schema of your data as a diagram.
